You’ll soar above Ararat Airfield, where the winds whisper through history and the Grampians rise in the distance. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and unforgettable — the perfect way to complete your weekend in Ararat.
The Flight Experience
Each Air Experience Flight pairs you with a qualified instructor in a dual-control glider. You’ll sit up front for the best view as your pilot tows you into the sky, releases the cable, and lets the glider drift gracefully over the landscape.
Bring your camera — still or video — to capture your journey above the Grampians, the Pyrenees Ranges, and the town of Ararat itself.
Whether you’re after a thrilling adventure, a quiet scenic flight, or a meaningful gift, the Grampians Soaring Club has something for everyone.
Standard Air Experience Flight – $195 with the secret code: $165
A gentle introduction to soaring. You’ll climb to about 1,000 metres (3,000 ft) and take in the sights of Ararat and the One Tree Hill range.
Flight time: around 20 minutes.
Excitement Plus Flight – $295 with the secret code: $250
Our most popular option. You’ll be towed to 1,300 metres (4,000 ft) for a longer flight and a closer approach to the Grampians.
You can choose between a scenic extended flight or an aerobatic experience — complete with loops and rolls.
Flight time: around 25–30 minutes.
Mile High Flight – $495 with the secret code: $420
A breathtaking scenic flight to 1,610 metres (5,300 ft). You’ll have more time to glide back to earth, explore the view, and, weather permitting, soar closer to the Grampians.
Aerobatics are also available by arrangement.
Flight time: around 45 minutes.
Passenger Information
We do everything possible to make gliding accessible to everyone, but some limits apply for comfort and safety:
- Weight limit: up to 120 kg (aircraft balance dependent)
- Children: generally suitable for ages 8 and above
- Mobility: passengers must be able to enter and exit the glider unaided
- Disability: many people with disabilities can fly; contact us for details
- Pregnancy: advisable to wait until after birth due to motion sensitivity
Elderly passengers are warmly welcomed — many step out feeling decades younger. Ex-pilots are especially invited to take the controls again (we’ll handle the landing).
When & Where
Flights operate most weekends and public holidays from Ararat Airfield, just minutes from the Aradale Asylum and the town centre. Occasionally, the club travels to gliding events around Victoria, so it’s best to confirm availability before you visit.
You don’t need to book a specific flight time when purchasing a voucher, but scheduling ahead helps ensure a smooth experience.
